Steny Hoyer says here in a CNS News interview that the General Welfare Clause gives Congress the jurisdiction to mandate that all Amercians have Health Care Insurance and anything else they can think up.
I find it amazing that when a congressman is asked a question that should be right in his wheel house, he can’t find the wheel or the house to answer the question. I believe it goes without saying that the Democrats think when they are in power they have cart blanc to pass whatever legislation will give the them more power over our lives.

What Steny Hoyer is saying is “we have the power to enforce the General Welfare Cause. In reality the constitution says promote not enforce.
If this Government run Health Care option becomes law, the Government will have a free rein to mandate or force states or citizens to dance for their meals in the form of taxes, fees, excise…etc.
Keep in mind that is is imperative in the minds of the Democrats that crucial left wing legislation is passed before 2010 elections while they still have majorities in both houses of Congress.
