Jim Clyburn- Majority Whip

An article that was written back in January of this year which interviewed the majority whip, the esteemed James Clyburn D-SC about how congress should proceed with implementing health care. Clyburn’s remarks were foretelling about the predicament the democrats 10 months later find themselves in.

This article was in Real Clear Politics which was lifted partially from The Hill.com reveals what the liberals will wind up having to do.  First and foremost the liberals wanted to ram home “any” health care option, just like the stimulus and cap and tax, regardless of how crappy it was just so they could get it on the books before 2010. If they can’t get  this bill voted on before the end of ’09, there may be a chance that they will run out of time before the 2010 election as some members in their own party will thwart the bill due to objection over abortion funding, cost, add ons, etc….

Jim Clyburn, a prominent House Democrat, said he doesn’t expect a comprehensive healthcare reform bill to pass Congress in 2009, saying an incremental approach to covering the uninsured would be better “than to go out and just bite something you can’t chew.”

Clyburn suggests a sleathier way forward for Democrats on the issue:

While noting he does not know exactly when President Obama want to move forward with a universal healthcare measure, Clyburn said, “If you take what we’ve done with the SCHIP Program [the State Children's Health Insurance Program bill] and then you follow with [more spending] on community health centers, you would have gone a long way to building a foundation upon which to build a universal access healthcare program.

Jim Clyburn says,“That’s incrementalism, which doesn’t have the sex appeal of “comprehensive” reform but seems to me to be a much sounder political strategy. If you go step-by-step, rather than taking it all in one giant leap, you run a lower risk of arousing opposition.”

The last statement about incrementalism which is the frog in the pot scenario-turn the heat on low and boil the frog without him ever knowing he is Dinner is what the Democrats have done for the past 45 years. We all know what “bracket creep” is when it comes to taxes, this is what is known as “liberal creeps.” Sneak up on the enemy(read American people) and  slowly roll them into the program before they wake up and find out it is too late to go back.

The libs unknowingly awoke a sleeping giant in the American people when they rammed through the stimulus bill, cap and tax, and now the behemoth health care fiasco.  The American people were on guard and waiting on the libs and fence sitters this summer.  Townhall meetings across America became shooting galleries for the taxpayers as they shot everyone of these members of congress between the eyes who was hiding  this bill. Taxpayers sent them back to Washington with one message.  “You better do right by us, or you will be coming home for good in 2010.”

Keep in mind that what happened yesterday in Virginia, and New Jersey will happen all over this country in early November 2010 and the Democrats know it.  We will see how many begin to change their tune and thwart this bill going into next year.
