Taxpayer Funded Abortions, Hyde Amendment, Congress’s Shallowness

by admin on December 16, 2009

Taxpayer funded abortion debate will not go away if it happens to become part of the final bill.  Congress’s shallowness and their inability to interpret correctly what the Hyde amendment and the Consitution  says, will hopefully keep this health bill bottled up in committee for awhile.

Abortion-Our most divisive issue

As more and more Americans become acquainted with the health bill coursing its way through the Senate, the more concern over the possibility of taxpayer covered abortions becoming status quo. Roe v Wade being the law of the land is one thing, but having taxpayers who’s faith dictates that abortions are immoral, is a totally different issue when taxpayer funds are used to pay for them, the Hyde amendment took care of this.

If this abortion funding was to pass, there will be those who will protest  income tax payments on moral grounds alone.  This  will surely wind up in the supreme court for adjudication.

The tax payer funded abortion issue is a perfect example of the Senate and probably the House, over reaching their boundaries of power while disregarding the Hyde amendment.

This is the same Senate that happens to be unable to give a satisfactory answer to the question, “Where does it state in the Constitution that Congress can require citizens of this country to purchase goods or services from the government or face penalty of law or fines or both?

Joe Lieberman (I-Conn) commented  on this issue, and in my opinion, was unconvincing in his answer. Members of Congress are treading in areas of the Constitution that has been off limits for the last 230 years.  Their answers are shallow considering the depth and ramification of the problem and the outcome.
