What Made This Country Great?

by admin on December 22, 2009

Over my middle aged lifetime I have seen great and wonderful events unfold, that has made this country great.  As an 11 year old I watched intently along with 600 hundred  million  people  around the world as the first human steps were taken on the moon. These steps were for all mankind but the real story for me was the pride I felt knowing they were American boots touching down in the powdery soil of our world’s moon. We were victorious and we were the champion of champions for all mankind to emulate.

moon landing What Made This Country Great?

The imagination, perseverance and a multitude of great minds that cooperated on a new dimension to bring this vision to fruition that John Kennedy had at the turn of the decade of the 60′s was simply unfathomable.

That very moment  in July of 1969 our country proved to the world that as a people of God, purveyors of peace, and a wish for all mankind to be free and at peace from tyranny around the world, they to could accomplish what we accomplished by allowing the ingenuity and imagination of free men to come together and explore  profound ideas and visions that would benefit all mankind.

When the computer age for the masses was ushered into existence in the 80′s , our landscape was forever changed and a new found technology for the masses was born, and to this day keeps changing every 18 months as new technology comes online. The imagination of thinkers and doers in this country continues to astound the world.

As I begin my walk down the other side of life’s mountain I fear for my country’s economic and financial future.  I fear for my children’s future. Will young people today  accept as the norm that our government has become sullied and stained by perverse ideas and laws that have been proven without debate that they do not work for a country that has been bathed in liberty and freedom for the last 230 years.

Will our children, and their children, and their children accept the financial obligations that our ship of fools have placed upon their shoulders? Out of this malaise, will real leaders stand up with the convictions of knowing the difference between right and wrong, and doing what it takes to save this listing ship from its own hand.

Today, we are 12 trillion dollars in debt.  That number is 12 with 12 zeros.  We have 74 trillion dollars  in unfunded Medicare liabilities as of 2008.

We are quickly approaching a closing window of financing from foreign nations such as China, Japan and others who no longer want US Treasuries in their portfolios.  The middle east is determined to come online with their own currency much like the Euro in order to stabilize the oil market volatility.

Our politicians are making the kind of history that no one will want to take credit for in 10 years.  There are a number of rats every election cycle, leaving the ship to fade back into civilian life knowing that they did not want to be held responsible for the undoing of this country. There are others who are leaving the electoral only to resurface as power brokers that shill for the highest bidders for their  insiders expert services.

The Health Reform act of 2009-2010 has shown Americans a clear view who the pimps and prostitutes are in the houses of Congress.  This congress will go down in the history books as the congress that is the most detached  from their electorate and their wishes.

What made this country great?  Citizens who worked hard and made something out of nothing.  Scratched out an existence  in the beginning, hoping beyond hopes that their endeavor would reap great rewards because that is what this country promised them if they only tried.

What made this country great was the idea that a man could fail, get up, and try it another way until he struck success.  The promise of a better life for himself and his family has always been at the forefront of every capitalistic idea or dream for anyone who had the courage to dream it and then do it.

Congress is taking the incentive out of excelling, and being the best a person can be.  The idea that you can take an honest,  hardworking, man’s rewards and redistribute them for the collective good is outrageous, defiant, defeating, and without merit or basis.

2010 elections are 11 months away.  Now is the time for all Americans who have struggled and worked and played by the rules to stand up and step out and vote these  contemptible creatures out of office and send a clear message that whoever replaces these malcontents will be replaced if they don’t do right by us!
