Obama snubs the European Summit in May?

President Obama is going for some kind of record for sitting US Presidents as he attempts to insult every ally we have since he took office a year ago.

He insulted Gordon Brown of England.  He slapped the Queen around with a dollar store CD of him singing in the shower which any bloke could have gotten in the White House gift shop (rumor has it, he sent Axelrod down to pick up the CD’s when they realized they had no gifts for the Queen).

He insults the prime minister of  India with a backhanded compliment as the first State Dinner Obama presided over since becoming President.

The President insulted the King of Norway when he stopped in to pick up his most vaunted award of his Presidency-The Nobel Peace Prize.  The list goes on but you are starting to observe a pattern here with Obama’s lack of grace and courtesy for foreign heads of states.

He insulted Sarkozy with this  faux pas, and the hits just keep on coming

Our beloved has now told the European Summit that has scheduled a conference for May that he “ain’t” coming. Scheduling conflict is what the President is saying. His emissaries did say that they could not commit for the President but apparently did not make it perfectly clear to the European planners that they had to clear it first with the POTUS staff.

A quote from the NY Times story by Steven Erlanger

In addition to the palpable sense of insult among European officials, there was a growing concern that Europe is being taken for granted and losing importance in American eyes compared to the rise of a newly truculent China.

European Union officials found out about the decision through the news media late on Monday, senior European officials said Tuesday morning. The decision was first reported on the Web site of The Wall Street Journal.

The Spanish prime minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, who is scheduled to arrive in Washington this week on a visit, was described as angry and embarrassed, and European officials said there was a set of high-level diplomatic exchanges overnight.

The good thing is, he only has 35 months left before he heads back home to Chicago.

The worst that can happen is he could burn down Camp David or total Air Force One, or worse,  spill Kool Aid on the Oval Office rug in the middle of the evening.

Now that would be sad.
