“The spirit of 1776 is not dead. It has only been slumbering. The body of the American people is substantially republican. But their virtuous feelings have been played on by some fact with more fiction; they have been the dupes of artful maneuvers and made for a moment to be willing instruments in forging chains for themselves. But time and truth have dissipated the delusion and opened their eyes.” -Thomas Jefferson, 1799
How profound is this quote to be spoken 211 years ago to describe the circumstance the American people find themselves in.
We are a country of center right which finds at times too trusting of Washington. A candidate runs on hope and change and in reality he lied about what hope and change really meant.
The country has been duped by an unskilled yet manipulative politician who should never have been elected to the highest office in the land. The bumper stickers, get out the vote, internet donations yada yada yada… worked for his benefit, only to be proved a charlatan with an unwavering and uncompromising ideology that if left unattended would swing this country so far left into a state of socialism that quicksand would be a welcomed relief.
The left says that we should have a health care reform bill in this country because we already have health care in the form of Medicare and S-chip for a portion of our population, and veterans health care. Medicare has been proven to be unsustainable and riddled with fraud, this program is destined to run out of money in 2017 which is 2 years earlier than once thought.
This is 7 years away and our politicians have no answers on how this program will be sustained. Social Security is in the same cart as unsustainable and will run out of money in 25 years. It would be safer to say that it will run out much sooner than when the government says so(that is always a safe bet).
Politicians have always said that SS is the third rail of politics and they should never tinker with it. The third rail is ultimately going to electrocute the electorate who will be retiring in the next 8-10 years and find out their social security is no longer going to sustain them through their retirement. Then what?

Not trying to be the cynic of the day but our country has been done irreparable harm financial and socially. We are on the edge of a precipice looking into the abyss of the unknown and struggling to find those who will lead us away from the soft sand of financial collapse and to the bedrock of long term stability.
This financial debacle has been 45 years in the making and is only now rolling down the hill to financial collapse at breathtaking speeds that has overtaken the whole country.
Thomas Jefferson had it right when he said
“their virtuous feelings have been played on by some fact with more fiction; they have been the dupes of artful maneuvers and made for a moment to be willing instruments in forging chains for themselves.
