What would happen if Government had any Common sense?

Common sense is driving the anger and fury the American voters are experiencing.  Or should I say the lack of common sense.  Many hard working taxpayers are experiencing what  happens when they can’t pay their bills.  They begin to get letters, then harassing phone calls, then served notice on a mortgage that is in arrears, then finally, kicked out of their home for defaulting on the mortgage. Then there are the families who are making ends meet but are faced with an uncertain future because the government is beginning to play a bigger role in their family, which will cost them more in future earnings  in higher payroll taxes, fees, and higher property taxes.

Americans play by the rules and win and sometimes lose.  They understand both sides of a win/lose scenario.  What they don’t understand is why government never loses when it makes terrible and costly decisions,  but the taxpayer does?  Why does a government continue to expand and spend beyond its means when the rest of the country is suffering and losing jobs?

They are on a gamut of passing programs to make it look and sound as though the government is doing it all for you and completely understands your plight. They are binge spending future tax revenue as if their is no tomorrow(maybe there isn’t?)

Cash for Clunkers program cost the government(read taxpayers) $8.57 for every dollar it spent.  No common sense was invoked. God forbid.

$787 Billion dollar Stimulus program that stimulated nothing but the printing presses at the US Treasury. Look at the programs and tell me where the stimulus is?

Bank bailout package that was given to the top banks that were too big to fail.  The banks pay the money back with interest and the first thing Congress and the President want to do is spend the borrowed (repaid) money on other programs the money was never intended, or allowed for.

GM and Chrysler were thrown life (cash) rings to keep them afloat. The government moves in and takes over two-thirds of the domestic auto industry and somehow this is a good thing with the President of the United States backing 7 year 100K mile guarantees from the oval office.  With whose money? Huh?

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, 2 of the lousiest run pseudo government agencies to ever be conceived, is bankrupt and bleeding cash like a stuck hog. The government keeps pumping money into this old bucket with a hole in it expecting to revive its  chances of surviving when the good times return. (I wonder who will have to pay all that “prime the pump” money back?)

The taxpayers of this country want to be taken seriously.  They are taking back the keys to the business in November 2010.  They made a down payment  when they flexed their voting muscle in Virginia, New Jersey, and Massachusetts.

Every Washington politician felt their 1-2 punch and are running like scared mongrels for the exit or are trying their best to hang on to their seats by bribing the public like Ben Nelson, Mary Landrieu, or even Harry Reid did with Obama seeking a cease and desist order on foreclosures in his home state.  Reid is losing big time in his state of Nevada.

Maybe after the elections in 2010 the politicians will show the public that they are capable of using common sense and realize there are some entities that should not be saved and allow the free market to be free in determining the outcome of wise and poor decisions. (Don’t count on it)
